Introducing Open Sustainability Index

2024-05-03

Imagine a world where every individual and organization has unimpeded access to the sustainability information they need to make informed decisions and to contribute meaningfully to the planet’s health and society’s wellbeing.

That’s what the Open Sustainability Index is envisioning.

Out mission is to build a global, open crowdsourced database akin to a “Wikipedia for sustainability data” — that serves not only the public but also the private sector – offering transparent, verifiable, and comparable sustainability data, starting off with corporate emissions data.

With an open sustainability data platform and collective action we believe advancement urgently needed for a transition towards a more sustainable society and circular economy will be achieved.

Open Sustainability Index thrives on the principle of collective wisdom, drawing data from the open web.

The platform enables companies to self-report and verify their own sustainability data, offering a space where community-edited content meets corporate transparency.

To secure its mission; open access to all, transparency and independence, Open Sustainability Index is a project by Our Commons Foundation – a non-profit with the sole purpose contribute to securing the livable future of our planet for future generations, stop climate change, and accelerate the transition to a sustainable society.

Some of the Open Sustainability Index team: Tom Söderlund, Henric Malmberg, Camilla Sahlin, Ariun Byambakhorloo, Katarina Wangler Björk, Petter Palander, Sanna Johansson

If your company reports on ESG, you can head over to opensustainabiltyindex.org and submit or verify your data for it to be openly accessible to the world.
